When you’re open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and our car wash price starts at a $6.67 you’re bound to see some really interesting vehicles. Did we mention that we on average wash about a thousand cars a day? That’s a lot of cars! We do see a lot of the same cars everyday here on the SpeedWash lot, but there are some days when we do capture moments of vehicles that we dream of. From examples of Italian automotive perfection to luxury vehicles, here are the top ten coolest cars that have come to SpeedWash.
1. 2012 Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador was officially unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and has been turning heads since. In keeping with the Lamborghini tradition of naming their vehicles after fighting bulls, Aventador was the name of a legendary fighting bull from Spain known for it’s bravery and courage. This V12 can go from 0-60 MPH in 2.9 seconds and called “The best Lamborghini ever” by Car and Driver magazine. Since being brought into production in 2011, there are currently only 5000 combined Aventadors that have been ever made. Fun Fact, in the Transformers: Age of Extinction movie the main antagonist “Lockdown” is a Lamborghini Aventador.
2. 1987 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo Cabriolet
The Porsche 911 has been one of Porsche’s flagship cars since 1963 when it was first announced. The first sketches of the 911 were drawn up in 1959 by legendary Porsche designer Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The 911 was designed to be a larger, more powerful, and comfortable replacement for their previous flagship vehicle the 356. The 1987 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo Cabriolet that we are highlighting can go from 0-60 MPH in 5.4 seconds. The 911 series is a staple in the professional racing scene and placed fifth in the Car of The Century competition in 1999.
3. 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG according to Jeremy Clarkson from “Top Gear” the SLS AMG is “the greatest car in the world”. Described as the spiritual successor to the 300 SL and designed by Mark Fetherson, the SLS AMG is best known for it’s signature “gull-wing” doors. A combination of class and performance, the SLS AMG is a favourite vehicle among famous collectors. Collectors of the likes of Jay Leno, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cristiano Ronaldo, and many more. The SLS AMG is capable of going from 0 to 62 MPH in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 197 MPH.
4. 2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom
What brand is more synonymous with luxury than Rolls-Royce? The Phantom has been one of their signature vehicles since 1925! Unlike the other cars on this list that are driven not only for their look but for their performance, the Phantom is strictly driven for it’s appearance and commanding presence on the road. Another favourite vehicle to drive among A-List celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, and many more. The outside of the vehicle is designed to turn heads on the street, but inside designed for class and pure comfort. Riding a Rolls-Royce Phantom is like riding in a private plane on the road.
5. 1993 Honda / Acura NSX
In 1984, Honda commissioned legendary Italian designers Pininfarina to design a vehicle for them with intentions to rival vehicle speeds of cars from Italy and Germany. Initially, the vehicle was called the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental ) but the name was changed to NSX (New Sportscar eXperimental) in 1989 when it was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show. Heavily inspired by the Ferrari 328 and taking further inspiration from F-16 fighter jets and F1 race cars, the NSX was designed combining the finest Italian design and Japanese engineering. Just like many of the vehicles on this list, the NSX is Honda’s signature vehicle on the racing circuit and a new generation of NSX for general public will be available later in 2016.
6. 2009 Porsche Panamera
The initial concept of the Porsche Panamera was developed from 1989 to 1991, but was canceled in January of 1992. In 2009, the concept was brought back to life and was unveiled Shanghai Motor Show in China. Built in Volkswagen Group Facility in Hanover, this particular model that came to SpeedWash can reach a max speed of up to 190 MPH. Compared to Porsche’s signature vehicle the 911 which is mainly focused performance, the Panamera’s focus was on comfort and luxury but with a the punch of a performance based car.
7. 2013 Jaguar F-Type
The 2013 Jaguar F-Type based on the Jaguar XK and the spiritual successor to the Jaguar E-Type. The coupe version that has been to SpeedWash was unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles autoshow. It can go from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds and at top speeds of 200 MPH. The Jaguar F-Type is considered to be the pinnacle of British automotive at it’s finest combining speed and performance. Singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey and soccer legend David Beckham are proud F-Type owners.
8. 1969 Chevrolet Camero SS 350
The first generation of Chevrolet Cameros are icons of American Muscle. The Camero first appeared on Chevrolet dealerships in 1966. The 1969 SS 350 editions of the vehicles were used as pace cars in the Indianapolis 500 and the vehicles themselves would regularly compete in the Trans-Am Racing Series. Known for it’s raw power on the road, the Chevrolet Camero is one of those vehicles that embodied the spirit of the 70s and it’s current incarnations still continue to wow drivers everywhere.
9. 2012 Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S is a full-size all-electric vehicle that is currently the third fastest accelerating car in the world today. Equipped with a 85 kWh battery pack that can go 265 miles on a full charge, it became the first electric car to top monthly new car sales in the world. Designed by previous Mazda designer Franz von Holzhausen, the Tesla Model S helped push what is possible with electric automotive combining style, performance, and eco-friendlyness. The car can reach top speeds of up to 130 MPH and can go from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds.
10. 1992 Mini Cooper
After World War II, the price of fuel was at an all-time high. Pioneer of the British automotive industry Sir Leonard Lord of Morris Company saw how difficult it was for the average person to own and maintain a motor vehicle. He issued a challenge to his top engineer Alec Issigonis to design a small vehicle that was fuel effecient, could fit four adults, and could be affordable to people of all budgets at the time. In 1959, the Mini was launched to the public and was initially panned due to it’s size. But soon enough people began embrace the Mini and it began to represent the spirit and essence of 1960s youth culture. From the Queen of England herself to all the members of the Beatles, they all owned a Mini and in 1961 Mini added “Cooper” to it’s name after British racing legend John Cooper who drove Minis in rally racing competions.
